Thank you all for working hard during yesterday’s class getting through the Adler reading. No doubt, where you started off on your own time was past the many (rather necessary) tangents the author took to set himself up to support his argument. I look forward to today’s discussion.
Today we discussed the Adler reading, began to fill out our Adler v. Casey charts, and then began reading Casey’s essay contrasting Adler’s “The Necessity of Government”. See below for those questions.
HOMEWORK:
Late start! Today we began our first reading, “The Necessity of Government” by Mortimer J. Adler. Although his language is pretty manageable, this reading shifts focus between large and small questions to arrive at the conclusion. Therefore, it is necessary to always keep in mind the purpose of each paragraph and it’s relationship to the overarching essential question the author poses at the beginning of the piece.
